“I don’t want to go,” he said, adding that the decision is not just his, but the entire team and organization’s. If it were up to him, however, the conversation would be short. He said if the team was to refuse the invitation, he wants people to know that the organization does not “stand for, basically what our president has – the things that he said and the things that he hasn’t said in the right times, that we all stand for. By acting and not going, hopefully that will inspire some change when it comes to what we tolerate in this country and what is accepted and what we turn a blind eye to.”

“I mean, it’s not just the act of not going there are some things that you have to do in the back end to actually push that message into motion,” he said.

In turn, Trump took offense to Curry’s statement and rescinded his invitation via Twitter.

“Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn,” he tweeted, although it remains unclear if the invite was rescinded for the entire team or just Curry.

In any case, Trump has been trending on Twitter since his statements about the NFL, prompting several current and former players to respond and denounce his attack. After Trump’s attack on Curry, analysts have highlighted the fact that Trump’s attacks have a recurring theme – successful black people. As the Twitter storm unfolds, it will be interesting to see how players react on Sunday.
